CasH on-going experiments

Posted on May 30, 2019 by admin

The experiments carried out in the framework of the CasH project took place in a new modern and fully equipped greenhouse of University of Thessaly in the area of Velestino, Volos. The experiment was conducted from 16/4/2019 to 27/5/2019. The purpose of the trial is to collect/recycle the drainages of the nutrient solution of a primary crop (tomato) to cover the irrigation needs of secondary crops (lettuce, spinach). The aim of this experiment is the reduction of the cultivation inputs as well as the environmental footprint. This way of cultivation can lead to a reduction of up to 80%  and 50% of water use and fertilizers, respectively.  The overall aim is to avoid the existing monoculture system and promote integrated production concepts for sustainable agriculture.
